September 2018 – From the desk of Cllr Richard Murgatroyd

In May I was elected as Labour councillor for Golcar ward. It hasn’t stopped since! There is much to be done and this has been reflected by the many individual pieces of casework that I’ve undertaken. Most contacts are by email, but if you would prefer to discuss any issues you have in person I have arranged surgeries on the first and third Saturdays of each month in Golcar Library and Milnsbridge Village Hall respectively, 10.30-11.30 am.
It’s also important not to lose sight of the bigger picture. Kirklees has experienced serious funding cuts which are impacting greatly on every aspect of the services delivered. So it’s vital that as many citizens as possible get active and find solutions to meet local needs. I’m currently involved with local residents and community groups like the Scouts to look at traffic problems around Manor Road School. I’m also Chair of a group looking to set up an Community Social Care Co-op in the Colne Valley to better meet the needs of the elderly. Working with Milnsbridge Enhancement Group, local schools, businesses and residents I’m helping to organise a special Xmas Light event in Milnsbridge, a fun chance for the community to come together.
